Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte range uses heavily peated malt, and this 13-year-old expression was finished in a Burgundy wine cask from September 2004 to April 2018, creating an unusual collision of Islay smoke and Pinot Noir influence. Peat smoke dominates the palate alongside red wine tannins, dried cherry, and savoury umami notes that suggest cured meat and black pepper. The texture is dry and slightly grainy, with a long, smoky finish deepened by wine influence. An unconventional choice for those adventurous enough to pair Islay peat with Burgundy wine character.
