Lagavulin 1988 Distillers Edition / Bot.2004 Islay Whisky

Lagavulin 1988 Distillers Edition, bottled in 2004, is an Islay classic finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks to create a bridge between the distillery's signature smoke and subtle sweetness. The heavily peated spirit gains honeyed richness and dried fruit complexity from the sherry influence, softening the maritime aggression while retaining Lagavulin's waxy texture and mineral depth. At 43% ABV and with age, the marriage of peat and wine is fully integrated. A benchmark example of how sherry finishing can complement rather than obscure Islay character.
