Personalised whisky recommendations,
scanner, and local pricing

DrinkNeatly combines a flavour matching engine, barcode scanner, geo-intelligent pricing, and an AI advisor — all free, on any device. Here's how each feature works.

01

Build your Taste DNA

Select your favourite flavour notes from 34 tasting tags — Smokey, Vanilla, Honey, Sherried, Fruity, and more. Takes 30 seconds. No account required.

DrinkNeatly computes a personal flavour weight vector from your selections. This is used to calculate a 0–100% match score for every bottle in the catalogue — showing you exactly which whiskies suit your palate before you buy.

02

Scan any bottle

In a shop? Point your camera at the barcode. DrinkNeatly identifies the bottle instantly and shows community ratings, tasting notes, price, and your personal match score.

The barcode scanner works in your mobile browser — no download needed. Can't find a barcode? Search by name instead. The Aisle Advisor lets you compare up to 5 bottles side by side and tells you which one to buy based on your taste, occasion, and budget.

03

Get prices in your currency

DrinkNeatly detects your country and shows prices in GBP, EUR, or USD automatically. Buy links go to the nearest local retailer.

No manual currency switching. UK visitors see £ prices and links to The Whisky Exchange. European visitors see € prices and Amazon.de or Amazon.fr links. US visitors see $ prices. Pricing is powered by Cloudflare's geo-detection and updated regularly from retailer feeds.

Ask anything

DrinkNeatly's AI advisor answers any whisky question — recommendations, comparisons, tasting notes, food pairings, cocktail advice.

Ask Neatly is a conversational AI trained on DrinkNeatly's bottle database. It only answers whisky questions and only uses real bottle data — no hallucinated recommendations. Your queries are processed on a local LLM for privacy.

What makes DrinkNeatly different

Taste DNA — not just ratings

Most whisky apps show you the community's favourite bottles. DrinkNeatly shows you your personal favourites — a 0–100% match score based on your specific flavour preferences, not the crowd's.

Structured flavour data

Every bottle has a 7-dimensional flavour vector (smoky, sweet, fruity, spicy, woody, floral, peaty — each scored 0–100). This powers similarity search, taste matching, and the AI advisor's recommendations.

Geo-intelligent pricing

DrinkNeatly shows prices in your local currency and links to local retailers automatically. No other free whisky app does this.

No editorial bias

Ratings are community averages — no critic scores, no brand placements, no paid recommendations. The top-rated bottles are the ones real drinkers love most.

Common questions

How does DrinkNeatly give personalised whisky recommendations?

DrinkNeatly uses a Taste DNA engine. You select your favourite flavour notes from 34 tasting tags (Smokey, Vanilla, Honey, Sherried, etc.) grouped into 7 flavour families. The system computes a personal weight vector and produces a 0–100% match score for every bottle in the catalogue. A beginner who loves vanilla and honey will see Glenfarclas 10 scoring 94% before they even know what Speyside means.

How does the DrinkNeatly barcode scanner work?

Open the Compare page and tap Scan. Point your camera at the barcode on any whisky bottle. DrinkNeatly looks up the barcode in its database and — if found — instantly shows ratings, tasting notes, and price. For bottles not in the database by barcode, it looks up product data from Open Food Facts and searches by name. Works on any mobile browser — no app download required.

Does DrinkNeatly show prices in my local currency?

Yes. DrinkNeatly detects your country via Cloudflare and automatically shows prices in your local currency — GBP for UK visitors, EUR for European visitors, USD for North America. Buy links are also localised to the nearest retailer (amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, amazon.fr, etc.).

What is the Aisle Advisor?

The Aisle Advisor is a tool for whisky shops. Scan up to 5 bottles and choose your context — easiest to drink, best value, most complex, best gift, good for peat beginners, or suitable for bourbon drinkers. Every bottle gets a ranked position with a personalised reason. It's the definitive answer to 'which of these should I buy?'

What is Ask Neatly?

Ask Neatly is DrinkNeatly's AI whisky advisor. Ask any whisky question in plain English — 'what should I try if I like Lagavulin?', 'best smoky whisky under £60', 'compare Ardbeg vs Laphroaig' — and get a personalised answer based on the DrinkNeatly database. It runs on a local LLM so your queries are private.

How are DrinkNeatly ratings calculated?

DrinkNeatly ratings are community averages of user star ratings (1–5). No editorial scores, no brand sponsorship, no paid placements. For ranking in lists, a Bayesian average is used: (rating × count) / (count + 5) — this prevents bottles with one 5-star review from beating well-loved bottles with hundreds of ratings.
